Providing free services for veterans and families in Boulder County, CO
About Us » History

Veterans Helping Veterans Now (VHVnow) was founded in 2007 when it became a project of Colorado Nonprofit Development Center. A decorated combat Marine (who served in Khe Sanh during the Tet Offensive) brought together a group of veterans, family members, veteran service providers and community members. The goal was to empower veterans who had been marginalized by society to utilize their skills and experience to help other veterans.
All programs are initiated by requests from veterans or their family members. In a brief time, VHVnow has initiated many successful programs, provided many educational forums, and opened a drop-in (non-alcoholic) facility. Founder Ray Meyers was honored by Mayor Hickenlooper with the Minoru Yasui Volunteer Award in August of 2008.
VHVnow’s background is rooted in veteran volunteers providing services to other veterans. There will always be an adherence to programs that reflect the real unmet needs of veterans and their families in our communities and a commitment to utilize veteran volunteers in addressing those unmet needs. The underlying principles are that many veterans and their family members need/deserve help and that these services can best be provided by other veterans and family members. VHVnow’s programs are expected to grow and, sometimes, change to reflect current unmet needs of veterans and family members at any given time.
